Mixed Reality, Internet of Things, and Digital Twins

In the past we have individually covered what Mixed Reality, Internet of Things, and Digital Twins are and how they are used. In a previous blog we also explored how Mixed Reality and Internet of Things are used together. Now we will dive into the powerful combination with the use of Digital Twins.

The use of Digital Twins with Mixed Reality and Internet of Things opens a new realm of possibilities. Based on the use and application not everything has to exist in real life. There can be a digital twin right beside a physical product used to compare what a product looks like to what it should look like or a digital twin overlayed on top of a product to show where a part goes, and which angle the part should be faced. To the use of just a digital twin by itself.

One of the things that was not possible before the combination of the three, is simulations are brought to life. You could also view them within 2D on a computer but to bring them to life in 3D changes the game. Microsoft has an example simulation where they use real time data thanks to IoT to show what happens live on a wind farm. The help of Digital Twins and Mixed Reality brings a holographic replica of the wind farm to life. Users can scale the Digital Twin as small as they want or as large as they want to zoom in and out.
